However one day, she missed out on doing so and decided to ask a friend to purchase a lottery ticket on her behalf, which in itself isn’t an uncommon practice. Miraculously enough on the day that the lottery results had been announced, the woman had discovered that her ticket had won a whopping cash prize of S$200,000 (RM649,440.32).

Understandably overjoyed at the unexpected windfall, she had vowed to treat her colleagues to dinner and even split some of the winnings with them, much to their delight. The author describes her colleague as being a modest person who earned about S$2,000 (RM6,494.40) monthly, and had never once encountered such a substantial sum of money in her life.

Her friend refused to hand the winning ticket back to her

Only, things did not pan out for the woman with her lottery winnings, as the friend that she had entrusted to purchase a lottery ticket on her behalf refused to hand the winning ticket over to her.

In fact, the friend went to the extent of blocking the woman on social media, severing all ties with her after the win! Understandably distressed by the circumstances, the woman turned to her colleagues for advice and was told to try and gather as much evidence as she could before making a police report. This included screenshots of her conversation with her friend, PayNow transaction slips, and photos of the winning ticket.

To her chagrin, the police told her there wasn’t anything that they could do as it was deemed a private matter. Upon being told this, the woman contacted the lottery company, Singapore Pool, and explained her situation to them in hopes of securing her winnings.

The company simply informed her that it was their policy to only make their payouts to the individual holding on to the winning ticket, and conversely asked that she take the matter back to the police.

It was said that she is currently looking into retrieving the lottery fortune with help from a debt collector.
