The Olympics is a major international sporting event that takes place every four years. The modern Olympic Games were inspired by the ancient Olympic Games held in Olympia, Greece. With that said, many athletes would try their best to qualify for the prestigious event.
First female cyclist in Malaysia to compete in the Olympics
Just yesterday, local newspaper Malay Mail has shared that road race cyclist, Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir will become the first female cyclist to represent Malaysia in the Olympics next year. This good news comes after Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) announcing that the prominent cyclist has been awarded with the slot.

The 26-year-old cyclist was said to be chosen after a special meeting was held to evaluate her consistent performance and ranking, said MNCF Road Racing committee chairman Norazman Abu Samah.
“With the guidance of coach Amir Mustafa Rusli, who was part of the 2012 London Olympics, we hope to see Nur Aisyah excel”, said the chairman.
Hard work pays off!
Other than that, the committee has also revealed that other than Nur Aisyah, a list of riders including winner of the gold medal at the Asian Under-23 Women’s Championship, Phi Kun Pan is working towards the road to Paris 2024. Following the decision to send Nur Aisyah to compete in Paris, the chairman hopes that MNCF would come up with a more comprehensive and efficient training to help prep the 26-year-old cyclist.

“The training would include sending the cyclist over to Europe for training”, Said Norazman.
Looking at Aisyah’s past achievements, the Terengganu born cyclist has bagged two silver medals in the individual and team road race events and a bronze in criterium during the Hanoi SEA Games last year as well as two bronze medals from the Cambodia SEA Games in May this year!
