Taking public transport can sometimes amount to a pretty stressful experience, especially during peak hours. From packed stations to trying to squeeze into the bus or train, or worse still, potential delays to commuting services. However, one man’s commute on a local bus transit system was made all the more fraught after he had tried to chase after a bus, only to find the bus driver closing the doors on him as he arrived.

Rapid Bus driver allegedly closed doors on man chasing after one of their busesΒ

The incident was recently shared by Twitter user @azlanalanlan, otherwise known as Mr Azlan Sulaiman, who witnessed how the man had ran after the departing bus as it drove away from a bus stop located in Old Klang Road on 9th April 2022 at around 3.01pm. But instead of allowing him to board the bus, the bus driver had allegedly shut the door in his face and left him stranded at the bus stop.

“This Rapid driver is really rude. This man had exhausted himself trying to run after the bus and when he managed to catch-up and reach the door, the driver simply closed the doors on him.

The bus wasn’t even full!” he wrote.

His Tweet, which has since gone viral, has led to many Malaysians sharing similar experiences with inconsiderate bus drivers.

“I myself have tried boarding a bus, and just as my leg had stepped onto the bus, the driver shut the door. My foot was trapped on the bus and he had wanted to move away. I had to knock on the bus doors before he would open the doors again before closing them and driving off. Yes, I really filed a complaint, and you wanna know what they replied? Nothing.”

“Rapid KL drivers are mostly rude, especially with foreigners. Some even drive like they don’t plan on living tomorrow and apply emergency brakes to the point where passengers would risk falling over. And yet the ones who are good, are really excellent.”

“I myself have waited for a bus, and if not mistaken I even used the Moovit app to check on the bus schedule. When the bus arrived, the idiot stopped in the middle of the road and asked those of us waiting at the bus stop to walk to the middle of the road to ride the bus. Those who were even slightly late never got the chance to board as he would shut the door immediately and leave.”

“Most Rapid drivers are like this. Nevermind the fact that they’re never on time. There was one time I had waited for a bus for quite a while, and I was rushing too. The driver then stopped his bus by the side of the road to buy himself breakfast. Everyone on board the bus got so angry just watching him. Stuff like this always happens.”

Company is now investigating into the matter

In speaking with Wau Post, Sulaiman shares that RapidKL has since reached out to him over the matter and informed him that they will be conducting an internal investigation into the incident. This was later confirmed in another statement that was released by the company,

“We take these allegations seriously, as the incident involves the ethics and responsibility of Rapid Bus employees.

‘Rapid Bus apologises for this incident and assures that the appropriate follow-up action will be taken to ensure such incidents will not happen in the future.”

Initial checks by the company on the bus’ black box recorder reveals that the bus had indeed made a stop at the described bus station before departing. However, further investigations are still underway.
