As another hour passes, another twist in Malaysia’s most recent political chapter has been announced by the Perikatan Nasional coalition, after a statement was released by party secretary-general Dato’ Seri Hamzah Zainudin indicated that they were now willing to consider working alongside Pakatan Harapan in forming a unity government together.
Perikatan Nasional says they will consider a unity govt in new statement
The decision was apparently made after a PN Supreme Council meeting that was held earlier today with regards to the formation of a unity government on a federal level. This contradicts party leader Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s earlier stance, when he had turned down His Majesty KDYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s proposal to work alongside Pakatan Harapan for the very same purpose.
Muhyiddin had also claimed that his coalition had managed to secure 115 Statutory Declarations (SDs), but was promptly dismissed.
As of right now, His Majesty has called a meeting with the Malay Rulers, with the express hope of finding a means of resolution to the current deadlock that has plunged the nation into political uncertainty. The 15th General Elections in Malaysia, held just last Saturday (November 19th, 2022), resulted in the country’s first-ever hung Parliament whereby no political coalition was able to declare a simple majority with 112 seats.
