As the video makes it wave on social media, it showcased how well-prepared he was for the competition. As he was making his jump, a smile was seen on his face, to which the commentator noticed saying that he is a “cheerful jumper’. The video then panned to the awards ceremony where Abdul Latif Romly was seen standing on the podium, along with his competitors, Athanasios Prodromou and Nicholas Hum who won the second and third place respectively. As the stadium presents the national anthem of Malaysia, Romly was seen placing his right hand on his left chest.

When the national anthem was played, Romly couldn’t help but tear up, possibly thinking of the hard work he has put in for him to experience all these. Adding onto his impressive resume, Romly was able to win his first gold medal at the age of 19 in 2016, beating an athlete from Spain who had a record of 7.37-metre jump that has been unrivalled since 2003.

Following the video, plenty of netizens have left their congratulatory comments and here’s what some of them said:

“He’s a Malaysian hero! Super proud of him. The best!”
