It should go without saying that if you don’t have anything nice to say, then it’s probably best not to say anything at all. After all, you never know how your scathing remarks may wind up hurting the feelings of others and chip away at their self-esteem, even if it may have been well-intentioned or in jest.
Malaysian gets body shamed by colleague, expresses her frustration online
Just recently, an anonymous Malaysian netizen took to airing her frustrations on the Xuan Play Facebook page, explaining how she was body shamed by a fellow colleague of hers.
In her post she explains that she was out having lunch with her colleagues and decided to order a bowl of pan mee, an iced coffee and 2 plates of dim sum.
To her shock and surprise, a colleague of hers suddenly made an unsolicited remark on her physical appearance after observing what she ate for lunch.
“No wonder you’re so fat! You eat so much on a daily basis; I’m a guy and I don’t even eat as much as you do!”
She revealed in the same post that she weighs about 58kg and admits that she isn’t slim, but she doesn’t think that she is fat either. Feeling frustrated, she turned to netizens asking how she should respond to him instead.
Her post has since garnered over 400 comments with many netizens comforting her and telling her to not engage in petty remarks.
“You should just ignore him. if he could say things like that to your face, it’s proof that he doesn’t have a very high EQ.”
“Food intake has nothing to do with you being fat. If you’re fat, there’s ahigh chance that your metabolism rate is slightly slower. I really like having food with people who can eat a lot because if I can’t finish, I can offer them my leftovers.”
“This is why eating along is always a good idea! If you eat with other people, you’ll have to deal with their nonsense.”
“The reason he said what he said is to watch you get angry and frustrated, you should just give him a small smile and carry on.”
It’s never nice to poke fun of someone’s physical appearance and here’s a gentle reminder to keep potentially hurtful statements to yourself.
