A friend in need is a friend indeed, as the old saying would go. Which is to say that true friends are the ones who will stick by you when you need hep the most. And in the case of one group of Malaysians, that has most definitely proven to be true after they decided to come together and mount a rescue mission to save a frightened dog who somehow wandered close to a cliff edge before getting itself stuck.
Group of M’sians work together to save dog stranded on cliff edge
The dog’s plight was shared by Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA) Selangor onto their social media pages, where they had appealed to local animal rescuers in the area to consider lending a hand and save the poor animal from potentially falling over into the water below.
A photograph that accompanied the post shows the dog perched precariously by the edge with little hope of navigating back to safety. But thanks to a ragtag team of local animal lovers, they were able to prevent it from suffering a potentially harrowing fate.
Among them included Mr Francis Poh Chun Tat, whom we featured previously after he held an adoption drive by the roadside for a number of stray puppies that he managed to save. And true to his commitment to animal welfare, he decided to mount a rescue initiative with the help of Kevan de Silva, Ming Hou Stefan Chong, Chia Ling Cheong, Mr. Gan, and Azhar Abd Majid.
Trekked through dense vegetation
Documenting the entire process on his Facebook page, Francis explained that they had initially gathered at the viewing deck at around 8.00am in the morning. They then embarked on their trek into the thick foliage of the small jungle at the other end of the pond in search of the dog by means of using a small boat to reach.
Despite being located near the residential neighbourhood of ForestHill, the jungle itself was untamed and wild, with Francis describing to Wau Post how challenging their trek came to be when they realised that there were very little flat surfaces to walk on. He adds that the risks of their rescue mission were obvious as any of them could potentially slip and injure themselves.
But the group persevered in spite of the minor cuts that they sustained while trudging through thick vegetation, and eventually managed to find the stranded dog.
“I was jokingly telling others that this mission actually doesn’t need me or my friends but Navy Seal coz it involved water, land, climbing & hiking.” he said.
Cradling the dog down, Francis said that they eventually made the decision to let it go as it did not appear to be friendly around humans and tugged on the leash repeatedly as they brought it back to safety.
