In many instances, the world can feel like a rather cold and unforgiving place, rife with challenges and hurdles. Which is why if and when the opportunity presents itself, we should always make an effort to try to be kind and share some goodwill around if we are in a position to do so, as one netizen did upon meeting a mak cik who ran her own small business.

M’sian urges netizens to support elderly mak cik selling packed meals

Appealing to local social media users to do just that, local netizen @izx2471 recently took to recounting an encounter that she had experienced last Tuesday (March 2nd, 2023), when visiting the klia2 airport. At the time, an elderly mak cik approached her and asked if she would like to buy some packaged meals that she was selling from inside a small hand-drawn trolley.

“While at the airport just now, there was this mak cik who approached me and asked if I wanted to buy nasi rendang ayam, nasi minyak, ayam masak merah.”

She admits that at first, she was taken aback by the question and declined the offer. But as the old woman began walking away, she noticed that she was totting along her trolley, packed with plastic containers of prepared meals.

“So I called her back and bought some from her,” she said.

As she purchased two boxes of rice with ayam masak merah, she decided to go out on a limb to strike up a conversation with the elderly woman to learn more about her circumstances that led her to sell packed meals at the airport.

“She told me she cooked and sold these meals to help pay for the cost of her cancer treatment.

I think she was in her sixties, but she was still really hardworking in spite of her age.”

Urging others who happened to come across the mak cik to show her small business some support by buying from her, she also prays that things will go smoothly for the her in the future.

Other netizens share their own encounters with her

Since it was shared to Twitter, news of the mak cik has since spread like wildfire across local social media, with many other netizens sharing their own experiences in buying from the elderly woman.

Netizen @hhariss_ said that he himself saw her selling food to staff working at a restaurant in klia2, but doesn’t bother other diners who were already having their own meals. The original author of the Twitter thread agrees that the woman is often polite and never begs for people to buy from her.
