M’sian tower runner cries tears of joy after conquering Taipei 101 in under 20 minutes

Tower running, also known as stair climbing or vertical racing, is a competitive sport and recreational activity that involves racing or ascending stairs in tall buildings or towers. With incredible strength, grit and persistence, Malaysia tower runner, Soh Wai Ching has emerged at the top, beating over 6,000 international runners at 2024 Tower running World Championships!

Throughout the last few years, many Malaysians are no stranger to the name Soh Wai Ching as he has participated in many tower running competitions. Just recently, a video posted by the athlete himself has touched the hearts of many. Watching the video, Soh was in tears of joy after completing his run at Taipei 101.

According to newswire agency Bernama, the 2024 Tower running World Championships was held on 4 May at the iconic Taipei 101 in Taiwan. With over 6,000 international participants, the dedicated runner was able to get the first place, winning the 2024 World Champion.

In just 11 minutes and 35.61 seconds, Soh managed to complete the first round of 91 floors, using another 7 minutes and 1.01 seconds to finish the next round. Following closely was Japan’s Ryoji Watanabe (18:40.04s) and Australian Mark Bourne (19:33.12), who finishing at second and third, respectively.

As the emcee called out to Soh, announcing his win, he quickly headed up onto the podium, proudly holding the flag of Malaysia! Along with his victory, Ravinder Singh, Malaysia Towerrunning Association’s (MTA) President said that Soh’s victory is all because of his dedication and consistency.

“Having been at his peak in 2020, Soh managed to maintain his high performance, earning the ultimate towerruning accolade”, he said.
