Road trips with a bunch of friends are always fun but when it comes down to splitting the bills, problems may actually occur. Just recently, an anonymous post has gone viral on X (formerly known as Twitter) where a Malaysian was unhappy with the way they’ve decided to split the bill.
M’sian thinks he shouldn’t have to pay for gas when going on a road trip with friends
According to a post by @ketengahketepi on X, she shared an anonymous post where a Malaysian was unhappy with the way his friends have decided to split the bills especially for gas. In the post it said,
“Bina, my friends and I are planning for a road trip to Pulau Perhentian and we’re thinking of using my car. They mentioned that they will be splitting the toll money amongst each other, but when it came to gas, they want to split it with me as well.”
She continued in the post asking if this was the right way to split the bills as she is contributing her car for the trip as well. She expressed her feelings saying that she thinks she shouldn’t be paying for toll and gas as she has contributed her car for the trip.
“I don’t think I should be paying for toll and gas, or am I wrong about it?”, she asked.
Following her post, plenty of netizens have left their comments and here’s what some of them said:
“If that’s the case, I think you guys should just rent a car. Then you can split the bills evenly, since you want it to be fair and square.”
“I think your friends are actually pretty kind to be willing to share the toll money amongst each other because it’s not a small amount for a two-way trip. If you think this is an issue because you’re ‘sacrificing’ your car, then you should just rent a car.”
“You should just take Grab and split the costs amongst each other.”
“My friends and I go for road trips, and we would usually split the bills equally amongst us all. This is our agreement, and we are happy with it. I think you should speak to your friends about it, if not the trip wouldn’t go as planned.”
What do you think of her situation? Do you think she should pay for gas?
