Wanting to be closer to her husband and children, this Malaysian teacher has decided to quit her teaching job based in Penang and move back to Kelantan. Needing to help support her family, the former teacher had decided to sell sandwiches, that could help with weight loss.
M’sian teacher quits her job to sell sandwiches at her hometown
According to local newspaper, Sinar Harian, Yasmien Aiezzam Yasin a 35-year-old woman has made the courageous decision to move back to Kelantan and be close to her husband and children. Being apart from her family, Yasmien shared that she often feels a sense of uneasiness. Missing her children and family, she would find herself breaking down often, feeling trapped and suffocated.
Applying for a transfer back to her hometown, she was met with disappointment as her transfer application failed. Not wanting to spend more time apart from her family, she decided to head back to her hometown and quit her job in 2016. Sharing her journey of becoming a sandwich seller, the former teacher revealed that after giving birth to her 5th child, she experienced a significant weight gain.
“At the time, I was at 80kg and found it difficult to lose weight”, she said.
Wanting to lose weight and stay healthy, she then started experimenting with sandwiches, trying to find a recipe that can help support her weight loss journey. Sharing her sandwiches and journey online, Yasmien was surprised to receive support from her friends, even before she started her business.
Tough decision meets good outcome
In just 6 months, her sandwiches have started gaining traction, and started trending online. Sharing her challenges as a vendor, Yasmien has to wake up as early as 3am to prepare the ingredients for her sandwiches. Selling over 130 to 200 sandwiches a day, she has over 12 flavors for her customers to choose from.
“I prepare all the ingredients at home, so rest assured that the food is definitely fresh”, she mentioned.
Catering to customers who prefer a lighter taste, Yasmien would often receive bookings from her customers where they would enjoy her sandwiches for tea. Through her observation, her current trending flavors for her sandwiches are chicken crispy, Korean chicken and Korean beef.
As her business continues to flourish, Yasmien reflected on her journey and was happy that she had made the difficult decision to leave her previous job. With the support and encouragement from her husband, Yasmien is able to take care of her business and her children, without having to be apart.
When asked about her future plans, Yasmien shared that she hopes to become an educator for those who would like to venture into the field of healthy eating in the next 3 years.
