As her husband was waiting for help, he suddenly collapsed due to a cardiac arrest and passed away shortly after. Fortunately, Jaiton had received benefits from Socso to help with the burden after her husband’s passing. With 6 of her children depending on her, she had no choice but to step up and head the family, taking on multiple jobs.

She explained that in order to make ends meet, she is juggling 3 jobs at once, with her stable income coming from her ride services she provides for 15 students from 3 to 5pm daily. She shared that she also had a side business, Sahajidah hai-o, as well as selling nipah banana shoots and coconut leaves.

With her busy schedule, Jaiton reveals that she can barely spend quality time with her children except for Fridays and and Saturdays where they would visit her husband and mother’s graves. However, she remains positive and emphasised that she is blessed with wonderful and considerate kids.

“I taught them how to do simple chores like cooking rice and ironing clothes”, adding that this would encourage her children to be independent.
