Mount Kinabalu is a prominent mountain located in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. It is the highest peak in Southeast Asia, standing at a height of 4,095 meters (13,435 feet) above sea level. There are two main hiking trails that lead to the summit of Mount Kinabalu: The Timpohon Trail and The Mesilau Trail. Hikers are encouraged to take the former hiking trail but those who are up for a challenge can opt for the latter. With that said, hiking enthusiasts are highly encouraged to visit the mountain as it’s definitely an eye-opening experience.

Speaking to Wau Post, Sheryll revealed that despite it being the third time conquering the hike, it wasn’t easy due to the cold. She said that her biggest challenge was the cold but regardless of it, she was persistent and managed to reach the peak. Sheryll said that she had to wear thick clothing to keep herself warm during the climb and only changed into her traditional attire, which is the Dusun Kimaragang to commemorate her achievements when she reached the peak.

When asked about what her traditional attire means to her, Sheryl said,

“It reminds me of my roots.”

Sheryll shared that the traditional outfit she wore is a symbol of the existence of her ancestors and this is her humble attempt in trying to keep her culture and roots alive. As she posted pictures of her in her traditional attire, she mentioned that she didn’t expect for the pictures to go viral.
