By now, Malaysians are aware that it’s a custom to prepare red envelopes or money packets when attending a wedding reception. While the intention is to help lessen the burden of the couple, it’s worth noting that the money packet prepared also serves as well-wishes to the couple.
M’sian shares hilarious encounter of receiving hand drawn RM20 notes when counting money packets
Just recently, a Malaysian has posted her hilarious encounter onto her TikTok account. In the video, @jihaaaa98 shared that she was in the midst of counting the money she received at her wedding. Upon counting, she came across an envelope that instantly made her burst into laughter. In her captions she wrote,
“If you think receiving an empty envelope or tissue box is bad, this could arguably be worse.”

Turns out, in one of the envelopes she received, she found that there were two hand drawn RM20 notes in it. Comparing it to one of the real RM20 notes, she couldn’t help but find the encounter hilarious as the hand drawn notes were quite detailed, albeit obviously fake. Speaking to Wau Post, she shared that she didn’t expect for this to blow up and would like to clarify that she wasn’t mad or belittling the person who gave her the hand drawn notes.
“I’m at wrong for phrasing my sentences”, she said, emphasising that she never expected to receive hand drawn notes as she was fully prepared to receive empty money envelopes.
