For many years, schools have implemented physical education (PJK) classes to ensure that students get to be active in school, other than learning in classrooms. Just yesterday, local newspaper China Press has revealed that a 15-year-old student has passed away after he collapsed during his physical education class.

On June 16, it was reported that a student had collapsed during his physical education class and was later rushed to the hospital. After a day of attempt to resuscitate the student, he unfortunately passed away and his memorial service was held on June 17 to June 18, with his funeral being held on June 19. Berita Harian then reported that the victim’s cause of death was due to a lung-related issue called ‘pulmonary embolism’.
Following his passing, the local press has received an anonymous email regarding the tragic event that occurred. In the email, the sender had claimed that the school had committed negligence, whereby they did not call for an ambulance immediately after he collapsed. Instead, they offered him bread and water.
The email also stated that the school allegedly had an issue with contacting the victim’s parents as they were unable to find the contacts of his parents due to poor internet and cellular connectivity. It also requested for a proper explanation from the school so that it can provide some form of closure for the victim’s family.
Subsequently, a briefing was held with the ministry of education, school representatives and the victim’s family but details from the briefing was not disclosed. Manjung district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Nordin Abdullah emphasised that the victim’s sudden death isn’t related to any case of bullying, as speculated.
He then concluded that the case has been classified as sudden death and urged for the public to not speculate on the issue.
Our deepest condolences to the family involved and may he rest in peace.
