Known for its cultural diversity and plethora of food choices, Malaysia has become a popular tourist destination over the years. On top of exploring the concrete jungle that is Kuala Lumpur, many tourists have also picked up other states and cities like Melaka and Penang. Just a week ago, a study has shown that Penang, an island located at the northwest coast has been ranked as the 8th best island in Asia Pacific!
Penang ranked as 8th best island in Asia Pacific!
According to a study made by Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2024, the basis of naming the best island would require certain factors like:
- Remoteness
- Accessibility
- Local character
- Global sensibility
Based on the factors mentioned above, ranking first for 2024 is Thailand’s second-largest island, Koh Samui. Known for its palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves, and dense, mountainous rainforest, Koh Samui offers a mix of natural beauty, luxury resorts, and vibrant nightlife, making it one of the best islands in Asia Pacific.

Following closely are Bali, Indonesia and Palawan, Philippines claiming the second and third spot respectively. Being the only island in Malaysia to be mentioned, Penang has taken the 8th spot on the list, which was a spot by Phu Quoc, Vietnam back in 2023.

- Sumba, Indonesia

On a similar note, the list has also included the best cities in Asia Pacific, where Bangkok, Thailand secured its spot since 2023. While Kuala Lumpur was named as the 3rd best city, sadly it did not make the cut this year. Looking at the list for 2024, it contains:
- Osaka, Japan
- Tokyo, Japan
- Dubai, UAE
- Kyoto, Japan
- Hong Kong
- Seoul, South Korea
- Singapore
- Taipei, Taiwan
