A Malaysian netizen has recently courted backlash online, after she lambasted employees working with a supermarket chain for not helping her carry her items to her car when she already spent thousands of Ringgit.

Malaysian netizen blasts Lotus’s supermarket staff for not carrying her items for her

In a now viral video that has since been widely shared across social media, the woman could be heard airing her grouses from her experience shopping with Thailand-based supermarket chain Lotus’s.

Speaking as a small business owner herself, she said that even she would make it a point to help her customers carry their purchases when they needed the help as a show of appreciation.

“As a small business owner myself, even I make it a point to offer to help my customers move their purchases to their cars if they bought a lot as a token of my appreciation to them.

And yet when I went to Lotus’s I spend RM2,000 to RM3,000, the other day I spent RM5,000, and yet I have to move everything I bought on my own.” she said.

Expressing her anger at the lackadaisical treatment she received, she even describes the supermarket employees as ‘arrogant’ and ‘calculative’ for refusing to lend a hand.

“Even if we don’t have trolleys, we will help you carry your items by hand if you buy from us.” she adds.

Social media users put her on blast

Netizens have been quick to call her out for her entitled behaviour, with many pointing out that carrying items to a customer’s car isn’t part of a supermarket employee’s job scope.

“The problem is, carrying customer items to their cars isn’t part of a Lotus’s employee’s jobscope! Customers can’t even bother to bring their trolleys back to the trolley bay, and now you want to complain? You guys really are mental. I hope that my younger sibling who works with Lotus’s is spared from meeting people like you! Amin!”

“She really is terrible, to the point where she mentions she wants to smack the Lotus’s employee. Don’t make us all come over to give you a tight slap on the face, so that your brain could be put to better use before you speak. When you buy lots, then carry it on your own. Of course they should be calculative. Are you paying for their salaries? If they help you carry your purchases, then who will do their jobs?”

Others say that the comparison between her store and Lotus’s doesn’t make any sense, as her volume of customers is considerably smaller.

“Does she think that Lotus’s is like her shop? Just 20 to 30 customers at Lotus’s? If they have to help every customer carry their groceries, then there would be nobody left to work at the cashier counters, everyone would be busy moving goods to their customer’s cars!”

“That is LOTUS’S, not some small grocery store that can help you move your items. They have thousands of customers in a day, do you think they have nothing better to do than to move your stuff to your car? The moment she came back from her pilgrimage, her behaviour has been awful.”

What’s more, she has also been called out for her lack of consideration for how hard supermarket employees work.

“Idiot, those staff members are already exhausted from working in Lotus’s from day to night, carrying and arranging stocks. You make it sound so easy that they can just spare time to move your items. It’s not even in their work policy.”

The video has since caught the attention of Lotus’s supermarkets, who has since responded to the matter. Over social media, the official Lotus’s Malaysia account took a rather humorous swipe at the netizen.

“What is it with you guys? Don’t be like that. We have already investigated the matter to determine who is at fault.

In this case, it’s the trolley’s fault.

Why didn’t the trolley just help move her items on its own? Why must it be pushed?”
