Throughout the years, it’s undeniable that the cost of living as a whole across the country has risen considerably. And this is especially true when it comes down to eating out, what with many restaurants and eateries having to compensate for higher operating costs by raising their menu prices.
M’sian complains about high living cost in KL but netizens are skeptical
For one man, he decided to take his grouses online through Facebook, lamenting how his breakfast has cost him a whopping RM40. He then included a picture of the meal, showing how he bought himself a hearty sandwich along with a Frappuccino, both of which are from different, but equally popular chain eateries.
He continued in his post saying that a simple noodle with dumplings in Kuala Lumpur would’ve cost him RM10 and so for tea, he decided to make some for himself. In the second picture, he shows how he made a cup of tea himself and had it alongside a cup of instant porridge that could be purchased from any supermarket or convenience store.
He then ended his post by doing the calculations for his afternoon tea snack, saying that he only spent RM2.90 in total as his tea was RM0.50 and instant porridge was RM2.40. While it is undeniable that the living costs now aren’t cheap, many netizens were quick to call him out emphasising that he could’ve eaten a cheaper breakfast.
“If you use the money you spent on coffee to buy nasi lemak, you should be able to cover you for a week.”
“As long as you balance it out how much you use for the rest of your day, it shouldn’t be as expensive.”
“I suggest you plant your own vegetables and rear your own poultry, then your living costs would be way lower.”
“If you want something good, then you shouldn’t complain about it being expensive.”
“You want to have food from internationally owned eateries but you expect them to be cheap as well, I think it’s faster if you dream about it.”
“You didn’t budget your food properly and then complained that it’s expensive.”
