Nasi Lemak is one of the staples dishes in Malaysia that’s classified as a must-try! For those who are unfamiliar, Nasi Lemak is a dish that consists of fragrant coconut rice, sambal, an egg and some crunchy peanut and anchovies. This hearty and traditional meal is usually served in a small packet for breakfast.

Just over 2 months ago, a YouTube Channel named People Vs Food released a video titled, “Americans trying Indonesian food for the first time”. While this may seem like a normal reaction video, it seems like their video has caused some commotion within Malaysians.

In the 13-minute video the 3 pairs of Americans were asked to try over seven different dishes that originated from Indonesia. But in the list of food that they’ve included, they’ve decided to have Nasi Lemak as well.

The three pairs then began trying the local delicacy and complimented that the peanut and rice combo was absolutely delectable. While the dish served in the video was pretty traditional, one thing’s certain is that Nasi Lemak did not originate from Indonesia.

Following the video, plenty of netizens have flooded to comments, deeming that the producers of the video did not conduct their thorough research. Other than that, plenty of netizens have also critisised the producers for letting the talents use chopsticks instead of a fork and spoon.
