For Malaysia, the month of August is usually a month filled with plenty of celebrations as Malaysians would all gether round to celebrate its independence. With that said plenty of businesses would also offer different types of promotions and discounts to attract locals.
Local eatery offers 20% discount to patrons who dress up according to the Jalur Gemilang flag!
Just recently, local newswire agency, Bernama has reported that a store located in Ipoh has begun its Merdeka promotion by offering up to 20% discount to patrons who would dress up according to the Jalur Gemilang flag or Merdeka theme. The local eatery named Terengganu Corner is located in a food court near Jelapang.

Other than offering a discount for customers who dress up according to the theme, those who have their birthdays on August 31 can also enjoy a 20% discount every Sunday. for the entire month! Operated by a retiree named Mohammad Zarilan Ellias who is 60 years old, he shared that his inspiration for this promotion came from past experiences where he worked in the National Archives of Malaysia for 39 years.
“Throughout my years of working in the National Archives, I was involved in various independence programmes and wanted to continue the legacy”, he said.

Thankfully, his efforts weren’t wasted as plenty of patrons dressed according to the theme and dined at his restaurant. Accepting a short interview from Bernama, a customer named Saifurnizam Ya’akob said he was thrilled to be able to participate as he has never seen such a promotion.
“It’s my first time experiencing the excitement of celebrating National Day even before National Day itself”, he said.

Another patron Ismail Muhd Bayudin who patronised the eatery with his wife said that the initiative is brilliant as it can not only help customer with saving, but it can also promote patriotism.
