KTMB to offer express train service from KL to Ipoh in August!

In an effort to promote tourism and encourage Malaysians and tourists alike to travel within Malaysia, KTMB will soon be offering an express train service to Ipoh from Kuala Lumpur!

According to local daily MalayMail, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), reported that the express train service is offered so that travelers can enjoy a shorter travel time to their desired destination. Prior to this, KTMB chief operating officer Mohd Zain Mat Taha revealed that it would take up to 2 hours and 40 minutes for travelers to arrive in Ipoh.

“With the upgrades of the facilities, travelers can now arrive in Ipoh from KL Sentral in just 2 hours”, he said.

Sharing further, the express service is aligned with the upgrade of system and infrastructure under Phase 1 of Klang Valley Double Track (KDVT), which is completed in stages. Earlier on, KTMB also announced that it will introduce six ETS Express services from 32 existing services which are:

  • KL Sentral – Ipoh – KL Sentral
  • KL Sentral – Butterworth – KL Sentral
  • KL Sentral – Padang Besar – KL Sentral

With that said, the ETS service provided will only stop at the main stations, therefore shortening the travel time to 2 hours, 3 hours 30 minutes, and 4 hours 50 minutes respectively.

In an attempt to place Ipoh on the map by 2026, the Ipoh City Council had taken the approach of launching the Visit Ipoh Year 2023 as a showcase for the Visit Perak Year 2024. Through a new concept called 3H- Hipster, Heritage & Health, the city aims to attract more tourists internationally and locally. With a blend of sophisticated medical facilities, as well as hipster cafes and historic sights, the state believes that it is ready to welcome tourists.
