Organ donation can save or greatly improve the lives of recipients who are suffering from organ failure or other serious medical conditions. Honoring her son’s last wishes, this Malaysian mother living in Singapore has made the hard decision to donate her son’s organs, saving over 3 patients.
M’sian mother honors her son’s wishes, donates his organs to 3 patients
According to local newspaper Sin Chew Daily, a 14-year-old teenager, Lu Xuan Zheng (transliterated) was undergoing his physical test in school, where he was supposed to complete a 2.5km run. Halfway through his test, the teenager collapsed and was sent to the women’s and children’s hospital for medical treatment.
Being in a coma for 3 weeks, Xuan Zheng’s mother Su Yan Fen (transliterated), meticulously took care of him, giving him the courage, hoping that he would gain consciousness. Despite receiving the best care from medical officers and his family members, Xuan Zheng was pronounced as brain dead last weekend.
“I’m devastated, it’s as if I fell into a deep abyss”, said the mother, not realising that sending her child to school 3 weeks ago and bidding him goodbye would be the last time she sees him fully conscious.
It’s his wish, and I want to honor him
Having to process the sudden death of her son, she was met with another tough decision, needing to decide if she would be willing to donate her son’s organs. Sharing her thoughts, the devastated mother was initially unwilling to donate his organs as she didn’t want her son to lie on the operating, especially after death.
“But I remember him telling me that he wants to help more people. The next day, I called them and agreed to donate his organs”, she mentioned.
With over 30 family members and friends arriving at the hospital on that day, they then bid goodbye to the selfless teenager, sending him into the operating theatre. Following the organ transplant, the teenagers has successfully donated his kidneys, liver, corneas and skin to over 3 patients.
Su Yan Fen and her husband are both Malaysians holding a Singapore permanent resident pass. Back in 2017, they decided to bring their children over to Singapore for their education. Unfortunately, back in 2022, Su Yan Fen’s husband passed away due to cancer.
