Starting a family and having a child with your partner is a significant milestone and it should be something worth celebrating about. However, raising a child would require commitment and plenty of responsibilities would fall on the parent’s shoulder, in order to properly educate and nurture the child. Unfortunately for this man, what was supposed to be a joyous occasion turned sour as he was let go from his current job for trying to apply for his paternity leave.

Just last week, a Malaysian man has shared his grouses on TikTok, revealing that he had been laid off by his supervisor via text. In the video, he shared multiple screenshots of conversations with his supervisor saying that he would have to apply leave as his wife is about to give birth.

As he requested for time off, his supervisor asked him as to why he had to take time off this week because his wife’s due date isn’t until the end of May. The man then replied his supervisor saying that his wife had gone into labour earlier than expected, to which his supervisor responded asking him who will be working on his tasks while he is on leave.

The man then told his supervisor that he must be on leave this week in order for him to tend to his wife, but his boss told him saying that he should just quit instead.

“Please, don’t be like this boss”, he pleaded.

His supervisor then asked for proof that his wife is in labour and he shared a photo of him at the hall waiting for his wife. Unfortunately, even with the picture he sent, his supervisor was still adamant with his decision to lay him off. The man then pleaded again saying that he really needs the job as he has got added responsibilities now but to his dismay, his supervisor refused to take anything he said into consideration.

He followed up with his supervisor again the next day and was told that his position has been replaced by someone else and they will pay him his salary on the 7th. Speaking to Wau Post, the man shared that he has been in contact with the department of labour and will proceed to make a report about the ordeal he faced.

“As of now, I’ve got no time to make a report yet, as my baby is diagnosed with jaundice”, he said.

When asked if he has gotten a new job, he mentioned that he is putting it slightly on hold as he is actively in contact with the labour department and is waiting for a follow up.

Following his video, plenty of netizens have offered their advice and here’s what some of them said:

“You should keep this and head over to the labour department to make a report. Please don’t quit or send in your notice. Don’t worry about getting summoned because it’s obvious that your boss is at fault.”

“Report this to the labour department. Print these screenshots as proof. You won’t get summoned even if you’re still under probation. We must fight for our rights!”

“Report this to the department of labour and bring all the proof you have. You have a legit reason, and they cannot fire you without a proper reason.”
