When asked why he decided to study as a doctor, the 35-year-old doctor revealed that it was because he wanted to repay his mom for raising him. On top of that, his mother has also mentioned that she would love to see her children grow up to become doctors. Recalling the days where he just started, Dr. Arjanggi said that his mother was a little disappointed at him for giving up on his medical profession.

“But with the encouragement of my wife, I’ve made the courageous move to leave the field”, he mentioned.

Starting out his food vendor journey back in 2020, Dr. Arjanggi used a capital of RM300 to try and build his business. Not having enough funds to support his business full-time, he then worked as a parcel delivery rider during the pandemic. Revealing that he didn’t have much money to work with, he was ecstatic when he realised that he had earned a total of RM900 from the first day of operating his store.

I’ve been looked down upon, but I’ve never been happier doing what I love

Wanting to share his culture to more people, Dr. Arjanggi thinks that the best way to do so is through food. Despite his mother’s initial disappointment towards his decision, she was the one who taught him how to cook Minang delicacies.

“She taught me how to cook and made sure I was familiar with what I was doing”, he said.

When it comes to quality control for his cooking, he would get his wife and other family members to taste his food. Waking up as early as 5am, cooking over 40-50 dishes a day, the hardworking doctor is adamant in cooking all the food himself as a way to assure the quality.

Sharing his experience, Dr. Arjanggi shared that his transition to become a food vendor wasn’t an easy feat. While his working hours have become significantly flexible, he had to learn how to deal with difficult customers. Despite having money thrown to his face and being looked down upon, Dr. Arjanggi said that he did not let this dampen his spirits.

Along with the support of his family members, Dr. Arjanggi is able to break his own record, earning up to 5 figures a month, after sharing his business on TikTok. As of now, the doctor reveals that he has no plans in returning into the medical field and is happy with what he does.

“My current intent is to grow my business in hopes that one day, I can be an icon in the industry cooking delicious traditional Minang delicacy”, he said.
