Teachers are a crucial part of a student’s life as they are the ones responsible to impart knowledge and educate the children. While teachers can also take on the role of ensuring their student’s wellbeing while under their care, is it really a teacher’s responsibility to ensure that their students wouldn’t lose their belongings?
M’sian mom blames teacher after her child lost his pencil case
Just recently, local newspaper Sin Chew Daily has reported that a teacher was blamed by one of her student’s parents. In a screenshot released by Isu Semasa Viral on Twitter, the conversation was directed at the teacher, asking why the teacher did not check her student’s belonging before letting them leave.
Looking at the conversation, the mother has sent a message to the teacher saying that her child has lost his pencil case. She then followed up her message, saying that the pencil case she bought for her child is from a brand called Kanken.
“This pencil case brand is really expensive, can I ask for you to bear the cost please”, said the mother.
Following her message, she tried to insinuate that the teacher was at fault and questioned the teacher, asking the teacher as to why she didn’t check her student’s belongings before letting them leave.
Following her messages going viral on social media, plenty of netizens have commented on the issue and here’s what some of them said:
“Who asked you to buy brands that are expensive if you know that your child is incapable of taking care of their own belongings? You don’t have a sense of responsibility towards yourself do you need the teacher to teach you as well?”
“They should pay you extra if they want you to do extra work.”
“I’d always have to buy new things for my child and I learned my lesson as a mom. I would buy the cheapest pencil box and only put one pencil in his pencil case. If he lost his pencil we still have extra laying around. It’s a waste buying expensive things.”
“Parents nowadays are one of the factors that causes stress towards the school and teachers. Work becomes stressful because of a handful of students like that. Some of them don’t even pay their PIBG fees.”
“Please don’t have children if this is the mentality you have as parents. You should educate your child on how to take care of their own belongings. If they lost their items, they should inform their teacher and let the teacher conduct a spot check. You have to teach your child how to take action, not just keep quiet about it and then come back home crying.”
Do you think it’s the teacher’s fault?
