Daulat Tuanku! Sultan Ibrahim becomes Malaysia’s 17th king after taking oath at Istana Negara

Late last year, according to the keeper of the Ruler’s seal, the Malaysia Sultans have elected Johor Sultan as the new king. Following the news, the Johor ruler’s installation date falls on 31st January 2024, while the Pahang ruler’s term comes to an end on 30th January 2024.

Sultan Ibrahim becomes Malaysia’s 17th king after taking oath

Earlier this morning, the installation ceremony was held at Istana Negara where His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim took his oath, marking the start of the ruler’s five-year term. Prior to this, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah was appointed to fulfill his national duties, which ended yesterday (30 Jan).

As the installation ceremony takes place, Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has also been appointed as Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Similarly, the Perak Ruler has also taken his oath during the ceremony, therefore commencing his five-year term as well.

His Majesty had earlier departed from the Senai International Airport in Johor, accompanied by Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the Menteri Besar and Dato’ Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the Minister in Attendance. Shortly after, The King’s arrival at the Subang Air Base was welcomed by HH Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah and HH Tengku Laksamana Selangor, Tengku Sulaiman Shah Alhaj.
