Scam operations in Malaysia are not new by any means. Flip open any recent newspaper or scroll through your social media feeds, and chances are you may just read up about a poor, gullible victim short of a few thousand Ringgit, if not more. And while many of us may think that we would be smart enough to figure out a scam when we see one, the truth of the matter is that scam operations are becoming increasingly sophisticated. So much so that we may not realise that we’ve become embroiled in one until it’s too late.

Couple with baby stroller allegedly seen scamming people in Genting

Just recently over TikTok, netizen @hudanadiah_ shares how she herself became the victim of a scam operation when she had been visiting Genting Highlands with her family. Explaining how she was accosted by a couple who claimed to be Pakistani, the husband told her that they were in dire need of money to afford a meal as his wife had lost her handbag containing all of their cash.

Falling to their ruse, she and her family did wind up giving them some money, only to later notice that the woman’s handbag was hidden in a baby stroller that they had been carting with them all along! What’s more, the netizen also alleges that there were in fact two couples operating in Genting who were in cahoots with one another, and would tell other shoppers the same lie in hopes of scamming them.

In a subsequent video, she shows members of the scammer group in close vicinity between each other on an escalator, before one pair made a quick dash down to inform the other that their jig was up.

Netizens claim to have encountered the group in other malls before

However, netizens have claimed that this isn’t the first time that they have encountered the couple, with many saying that they have had run-ins with them in a number of malls across the Klang Valley, including KLCC, MidValley, and IOI Mall Puchong scamming victims in the same fashion.
