As one would when receiving a present from one’s parents, Singapore-based @zohtaco had been all smiles after her father had recently gifted her a brand-new bag from popular accessories retailer Charles & Keith. Hoping to share the exciting moment with social media users on her TikTok profile, she decided to film a short video detailing her unboxing experience while describing the purchase as her very first luxury bag.

In spite of the generally innocuous nature of her content, Zoe became a target for some netizens who snidely pointed out that Charles & Keith was not indeed a luxury brand, and mocked her for claiming as such.

This eventually prompted her to speak at length about the topic of privilege in a subsequent video in response, with Zoe explaining her humble family background and how the definition of luxury is relative depending on an individual’s position in life.

Her grace, composure and decorum in handling the brickbats has since won her a legion of fans online, with many netizens quick to rally behind her in encouragement and sharing their own experiences in owning items from Charles & Keith.

What’s more, many have taken to tagging Charles & Keith through their official social media accounts in hopes that the brand would reach out to Zoe.

Company reaches out to her personally

And it would now appear that their efforts have paid off as according to industry publication Marketing Interactive, a spokesperson from the brand revealed that they have recently sent an invitation to both Zoe and her father to meet with the company’s founders for lunch and enjoy a tour of their headquarters at their convenience!

While she did not reveal if the Charles & Keith has any plans in the works to collaborate with Zoe for any upcoming campaigns as of right now, she said that they were heartened to see the outpouring of kindness and support from within fans of their brand and other social media users for Zoe.

“A community that shows kindness and compassion is exactly what the world needs today and what the brand stands for,”

She also praised the teenager for showing both grace and humility in dealing with the incident.

“Our heart really went out to Zoe when we saw the videos and comments – there is no place for bullying, be it online or offline – but we were so impressed with the grace and humility in how she handled the situation, displaying wisdom far beyond her years and values that resonated with us greatly.

Her parents deserve much credit and must be proud to have raised such a grounded, resilient young woman,” she said.
