BREAKING: TNB confirms that power has been restored completely after blackouts in parts of West M’sia

National power supply company Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has officially confirmed through their social media channels that power in affected areas of West Malaysia has been completely restored as of 3.02pm today (July 27th 2022). Just earlier this afternoon, numerous areas across the Klang Valley, including Kuala Lumpur, Bangsar, Cheras, Bukit Jalil, Mont Kiara, Petaling Jaya, and Subang Jaya, have all reported instances of power cuts.

Multiple parts of West Malaysia report blackouts

This affected the operation of many major landmarks such as KLCC, Mid Valley Megamall, Sunway Pyramid, and even the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, who issued an apology over the matter through their social media channels.

According to NST, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall has also had to deploy traffic wardens down onto major roadways in the Klang Valley to assist in directing the flow of traffic upon the failure of some traffic lights.

Cities in other West Malaysian states, such as Kuantan, Seremban, Ipoh, Nilai, Manjung, and even Sungai Petani, also reported instances of blackouts.

Problem traced back to breakdown at Yong Peng North Main Substation

According to TNB, the root-cause of the problem was traced back to the breakdown of a piece of machinery at the Yong Peng North Main Intake Station (PMU), in the Southern state of Johor as 12.39pm. This led to a loss of power load amounting to 2.2 Gigawatts, which represented 10% of the total power demand from the Malaysian Peninsula.

They add that a majority of the blackouts reported were resolved in under 20 minutes time, with thanks from continued efforts by the TNB Technical Team. The company has also issued an unreserved apology to all consumers owing to any inconveniences that came about as a result of the issue.
