Known as the king of fruits, Durian, is a fruit that has thorns on its outer layer and soft creamy flesh on the inside. Over the years, Malaysians are abundantly blessed with durians of many types, and it’s considered as one of the must-tries as it can be found almost all year round in Malaysia.

Just recently, a China vlogger named Liang Zi, who frequently vlogs about her experiences in Malaysia has decided to try something new, where she would eat Musang King durian with rice. In her 1-minute long video, Liang Zi shared that she has eaten durian before but has never tried it with rice.

Following that, she headed over to SS2, one of the most famous places to get durian in Klang Valley to get some Musang King durian. She then tried conversing in Malay with the sales assistant, asking for him to recommend durians to her. At last, she settled with a smaller Musang King durian and went over to a nearby mamak.

She asked for a plate of rice infused with santan and started to mix her durian together with her rice. As she was mixing her food together with her hands, she shared that the reason she is doing this is because she has seen plenty of content creators from China doing the same when in Malaysia.

“The rice costs me RM2 while the durian is RM90”, she said, adding that she will definitely not waste the food as it’s a rather expensive meal.

After taking a few bites, Liang Zi came into conclusion that this is something that’s not up her alley as she didn’t like the durian being warm after mixing with the rice.

“I don’t understand why it didn’t taste good for me, I see other content creators eat it and they make it seem delicious”, she mentioned, elaborating that the durian taste so much better without the rice.

Following her video, plenty of netizens have left their comments and here’s what some of them said:

“I like eating durians but I don’t like to pair it with rice. The only food I can accept with durian in it is durian ice cream. I think durians are a type of fruit that should be enjoyed on its own, it doesn’t need anything else.”

“Durian paired with rice is a really good combo. My dad would always let us eat it that way when we were younger but he would never eat it with us. We used to eat it with rice because we couldn’t afford too much of it, so we would pair it with rice to make sure we’re full.”

“The taste of durian is naturally heavy, but its taste is also easily changed. For example, if you add soy sauce to it, the taste would completely change. You paired it with santan infused rice, the taste will definitely change. I would suggest you chill the durians in the fridge for a few hours and use white rice. Chilled durian with rice is really a nice combo.”

“The durian must be cold and you must use white rice. When I was younger, we would always eat it with rice when we cannot finish any leftover durians.”
