Watching the video for ourselves, a Malay woman was seen manning the counter at their restaurant. Taking orders from her customers, she was seen conversing with the customer in Mandarin, double checking with him to ensure that she got his order right. “He tried it previously and loved it. He wanted to order Nasi Lemak, but unfortunately, we don’t have it”, she said.
Located in Taman Melawati, Syafiqah shared that she’s been helping her mother-in-law out at their store. As China tourists would always frequent their stall, she decided that it would be beneficial for her to learn some Mandarin. Speaking to Wau Post, Syafiqah shared that she picked the skill up from her sister.
“Since I started helping out, I’ve began learning Mandarin and it has been very useful”, she said, adding that she enjoys being able to converse with her customers in Mandarin.
As her video makes waves online, many netizens have commented on her ability to speak in Mandarin and here’s what some of them said:
“Honestly, it’s a good trait that we’re able to speak in different languages. It doesn’t matter which language we know, as long as we’re able to speak more languages, it’ll be easier to interact with each other.”
“This is one of the advantages we get when we can speak different languages. We’re able to interact and communicate with tourists. Congratulations!”
“One of the best things about being able to speak in Mandarin is when the customer you’re serving is incapable of speaking Bahasa Melayu.”
It’s definitely great to see how beneficial Malaysians are to each other! What’s one language that you want to learn? Let us know in the comments!
