For those of us who have pets, we often regard of them as family members outright and tend to cosset them with love and affection in the warm safety of our homes. Unfortunately, animals who are born into the streets do not share in the same privilege and have to fend for themselves while depending on the goodwill of strangers to survive in an oftentimes hostile urban jungle.
Defenseless 5-month-old puppy severely beaten in Selangor
Tragically not all stay animals are often fortunate enough to be met with kindness, with many suffering painful, if not lethal consequences at the hands of animal abusers. Among these victims includes Cera, a jovial and convivial young puppy who was orphaned at a young age after her mother was killed. Thankfully, she was cared for by security guards who lived around the area and came to become trusting of humans by nature, explained animal activist page @myforeverdoggo.
However, her fate would take a dark turn when on October 29th of last year, the 5-month-old defenseless puppy was viciously beaten-up by an animal abuser in an unprovoked attack. She was hit with such force that she eventually passed out, with animal rescuers finding her bleeding from her nose, mouth and ears in a motionless state.
After receiving an emergency alert on Cera’s case, animal rescuer Shima took action and rushed Cera to the vet, where medical professionals discovered both her right front and hind legs had been broken as a result of the brutal attack. She was prescribed a round of painkillers to help her cope with the pain while doctors stabilised her condition.
Man who assaulted Cera has been identified, summoned to court
Mercifully, swift medical intervention by means of a surgery meant that Cera’s legs were patched up in the nick of time. A police report was also subsequently filed by both Shima and other eyewitnesses, in hopes of bringing the animal abuser to justice for the heinous act.
Fast forward to yesterday (January 30th, 2023), @myforeverdoggo has since reported that the perpetrator has been successfully identified by the local authorities, and will be facing criminal charges for the crime he committed.
According to Shima, eyewitnesses who were present at the scene at the time of the attack were threatened with violence by the man.
“Before that, there were people who came and tried to like, help. And he was like, ‘If you save her I will hit you too, I will hurt you too,’. So nobody dared to do anything.” she claims.
The suspect was called to the Kuala Selangor Sessions Court earlier this morning at 9.00am, and is expected to be face charges under Section 29(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015. The Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia (DVS) pushing for the maximum possible sentence.
Hopefully this will act as an example to deter other would-be abusers from committing such vicious and thoughtless acts against vulnerable animals in the future.
