Just yesterday (28th October 2021), a Twitter user had shared a video of an altercation that had taken place outside a luxury womenswear boutique located in KLCC. The now viral clip saw the woman, now nicknamed the ‘KLCC Karen’, arguing with members of staff at the store’s entrance after she had been denied entry for not wearing a face-mask.

Dubbed the ‘KLCC Karen’ by some netizens after the incident, it has now been reported by The Star that the woman has been identified by the local police. Spokesperson for the Dang Wangi police station, Noor Dellhan Yahaya, spoke to the media and confirms that investigations surrounding the incident are now underway.
The identity of the woman has not been disclosed to the press. She is likely to face up to a RM10,000 fine and six months of jail time, if found guilty of violating two sections of public health regulations, according to Yahaya.
Netizens have chimed in over the altercation
Earlier on, her outburst had even caught the attention of Health Minister Datuk Khairy Jamaluddin, who tweeted the old adage ‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do.’ before indicating that the authorities will be opening an investigation into the altercation.
“When in Rome do as the Romans do.”
When in Malaysia, please mask up. Regardless of the rules elsewhere. @KKMPutrajaya is getting more information from KLCC.

The two-part clip shows the woman telling boutique staff members that she was trying to return a defective bag at the boutique when a staff member had ‘put their hands on her’ and pushed her. She then went on to say that they had ‘no right’ to stop her as they didn’t own the shop, and that this was a free country.
