Along with the efforts of three towns and a kindergarten, the people living in Jelebu has managed to make our national flag, the Jalur Gemilang by using coconut shells!
These 3 towns in M’sia made a Jalur Gemilang flag out of coconut shells!
In conjunction with our National Day, the chairman of Jawatan Pembangunan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JPKK) from Larong, Pianggu and Mengkan, Samsudin Tohat, shared to local newspaper Harian Metro that this entire project has taken them up to 2 months to complete.
“In total, we’ve used 1,800 coconut shells to make this flag”, he said.

Recalling the process of making the iconic flag, Samsudin mentioned that they managed to acquire the shells from local vendors at the Kuala Klawang morning market. After receiving the coconut shells, they then proceeded to clean the shells and smoothen the surface, making sure that it’s even before painting it.
Following that, the coconut shells are then placed on a platform, while bamboos are used as the pole. Elaborating further, Samsudin mentioned that the entire project was time consuming because the flag is 3 meters wide and 5 meter long.
“This idea was floated around during one of our meetings. To make it more special, we decided to make the flag out of recyclable items”, he mentioned.

With the help of 40 locals as well as the staffs from Tabika Kemas, they managed to finish up this project, just in time to celebrate the 67th National Day!
What a great initiative to showcase the unity and harmony between Malaysians, as well as encouraging them to be creative and promote recycling!
