Malaysia Boleh: M’sian cheer team crowned 1st place at international competition in US!

Cheerleading in Malaysia has grown significantly in popularity over the years, evolving from its origins as a sideline activity to a competitive sport with a dedicated following. As interest in cheerleading grew, Malaysian teams began to adopt more complex routines. This evolution led to the emergence of competitive cheerleading, with teams participating in local and international competitions.

M’sian cheer team crowned 1st place at international competition in US!

Just over 2 weeks ago, Malaysia has sent cheerleading squad, CHARM, also known as Cheerleading Association and Register of Malaysia over to the US for the International Cheer Union World Junior Cheerleading Championships (ICU JWCC) 2024 in Florida, United States.

Receiving full support from the government, the cheerleading squad has received a total of RM80,000 to participate in the competition. Prior to the competition, the all-girls’ team were given the opportunity to meet Youth and Sports minister, Hannah Yeoh.

With over 10,000 athletes from 80 countries participating in the competition, Team Malaysia has managed to soar to the top, winning 1st place in the competition! On top of that, the girls also managed to win a bronze medal in the ICU Championships!

Along with their victory, Youth and Sports minister, Hannah Yeoh then congratulated the team, vowing to continue supporting and encouraging the athletes.

“So proud of you girls. Believe in yourself, train hard and celebrate”, she said.
