Cleaners are undoubtedly one of the most underappreciated staffs working in a school. However, they play a crucial part in maintaining the school’s cleanliness. Just recently, a school in Malaysia has decided to show its appreciation towards the cleaner by throwing her a farewell ceremony!
M’sian school shows appreciation towards cleaner by throwing her a farewell ceremony
After working for over 14 years in the school, Hamidah Aziz, the 59-year-old cleaner has decided to retire. And to her surprise, the school has decided to throw her a farewell ceremony, thanking her for her hard work and dedication throughout the years.
Affectionately known as Makcik Midah to the students, it was a treat to see the students preparing gifts for her farewell ceremony. When asked about her most unforgettable gift, the woman shared that it was actually a handmade card by a student.
“I know that she doesn’t come from a well-to-do family, but she wanted to give me a present, so she made a card for me and attached RM2 in the card”, said Makcik Midah.
Speaking of the children from the school, Makcik Midah said that she loves the students there and would often treat them like they’re her grandchildren. Occasionally, she would share some pastries with the kids, and in return they would offer her chocolates. On the day of her farewell ceremony, instead of commuting on her motorbicycle, the cleaner was given a ride home by one of the teachers in a car.
As she exited the school, students and teachers then stood in a line, waving farewell towards her. Recalling her days working in the school, Hamidah shared that she hasn’t been excluded over any school related activities and is always invited to participate in any outings!
Here’s to an enjoyable retirement, Makcik Midah!
