Just last week, the HangZhou Asian Games made headlines on the news as it was said to be one of the largest and most anticipated games since the pandemic outbreak. With that said, over 11,831 athletes from 45 countries are participating in the games.

HangZhou Games: M’sian shuttler Lee Zii Jia advances into quarter finals

As the game continues, the highly anticipated sport event, badminton has caught Malaysians’ attention with many of them expecting wins from our national athletes. Following that, national badminton player, Lee Zii Jia has made headlines as he advances into the quarter finals!

According to local newspaper Sin Chew Daily, prior to advancing into the quarter finals, the national shuttler had faced Mourinho Zefi Costa Gusmao De Jesus, defeating him with a score of 21-0, 21-7. With that win, Lee was set to advance into the next round where he faced Kunlavut Vitidsarn, a world champion shuttler from Thailand.

Spread across 3 matches Lee an initial observation was that the Malaysian player had made some mistakes in the first round, allowing Kunlavut to win the match with a score of 21 to 10. However, the rising shuttler’s sheer determination and hard work paid off as he managed to turn things around, claiming his victory with a score of 19 to 21 and 6 to 21 respectively.

As Lee advances into the quarter finals, the Chinese daily reports that he is set to face world ranking no. 5, Prannoy H.S. from India.
