M’sian shuttler Pearly Tan seen collecting her certificate for fastest smash in Japan!
Just over two weeks ago, Malaysian badminton player Pearly Tan has made the headlines for the fastest smash in the world! This groundbreaking achievement was witnessed at the Yonex Co., Ltd. Tokyo Factory gymnasium in Soka, Saitama, Japan on the 14th of April 2023.

It was reported that Pearly’s smash was flying at 438km per hour, which is faster than the speed of Formula One (F1) car recorded at 372.6km per hour!
Following her achievements, according to local newspaper Sin Chew Daily, the Malaysian player was seen heading to Japan herself to collect her certificate! Despite the injuries that she suffered on multiple occasions, Pearly was able to show incredible sportsmanship and subsequently set a new record for the world.
Surpassing the Guiness World Records for the world’s fastest smash, Pearly was joined by Indian player Satwiksairaj Rankireddy for the men’s category, recording a speed of 565 km/h. Local newspaper The Sun has shared that prior to this, the world’s fastest smash in the male category was set by former Malaysian badminton player, Tan Boon Heong back in 2013.
The former national player was able to set the record at 493km per hour, with Satwiksairaj breaking the record by 72km per hour. The daily mail also revealed that the smash records are often recorded by using a high-speed camera. Then, the instant velocity of the shuttlecock after the impact will be calculated from the photographic recording.
