As the pandemic hits the globe, the world had to make major adjustments in their lives to cope with the pandemic restrictions. With that said, school terms and examination periods were adjusted accordingly and now that the pandemic restrictions are easing, local authorities have been working round the clock to ensure that the students’ learning progress isn’t affected.
MOE: School terms to return to normal by 2026
When the pandemic hit back in 2020, schools in Malaysia were forced to adapt to the new norm and in order to cope, the academic year was delayed by 3 months, resulting in schools starting on March instead of January. However, Minister of Education, Fadhlina Sidek has shared in Dewan Rakyat today that school terms will start in January by 2026.
According to Fadhlina’s announcement, she announced that the ministry of education has started planning the academic school year for 2024 and 2025, implementing necessary changes so that the school term could start by February in 2025. She revealed that schools would have to follow the guidelines set, which is to have more than 190 days of school in one academic year. Based on their statistics and planning, the academic school year is said to be able to return to normal by 2026.

Fadhlina’s announcement in the Dewan Rakyat today is in accordance with Aminhuda Hassan’s question, in regards of the efforts and steps taken by the ministry of education to ensure that the academic year would return to its original state.
“I hope that through this announcement, the parties involved are able to plan ahead and make any necessary adjustments to ensure that the transition would be smooth, especially in the economics and financial aspect”, she said.
Lastly, she mentioned that the ministry is trying their best to ensure that the students’ progresses are on track and vows to keep a healthy environment for both the teachers and students.
