One of the best things about celebrating Raya is being able to bond with family and relatives with delicious food. With that said, one of the must haves when it comes to celebrating the festive season is ketupat. As the festive season approaches, plenty of vendors would start taking orders during fasting month so they can get them ready for their celebrations. Unfortunately for this family, it seems like their efforts have gone to waste.
Devastated M’sian finds out that fridge broke, causing 7,000 handmade ketupat to go mouldy
Over four days ago, a woman named Juliana Zakaria has shared a devastating video on TikTok revealing that over 7,000 ketupat that her mother made has gone mouldy. In her video, Juliana had shared how heartbroken she feels for her parents as their efforts were wasted.
She explained further saying that her mother has been taking orders since the start of the Ramadan and has been actively freezing the ketupat she has made so that customers can collect it when the festive season approaches. In total, her mother has made up to 12,000 ketupat throughout the month.

“My mother only realised that the ketupat have gone bad after she headed over to one of the fridges to obtain the ketupat for one of her customers”, she said. As her mother got closer to the fridge, she noticed that the fridge wasn’t cold and there was a foul smell emitting. When she opened the fridge, the ketupat inside had become mouldy and moist.
She then revealed that when her mother had realised that her efforts have gone to waste, her mother kept reassuring her that she’s fine, but she could see that there were tears on her face. When her father had found out what happened, he was so upset that he didn’t even have the appetite to have his dinner.

“My parents have been selling ketupat for over two decades and prior to this, my father had mentioned that he’d like to slow down the business and not take up too many orders as they were getting old”, she said.
Seeing that this incident had truly affected her parents, she had said that she supports her father’s wishes to slow down. Weighing their loses, it’s estimated that they’ll be losing at least RM4,550 as they’re selling 100 pieces of ketupat for RM65.
Due to the shortage of supply, Juliana has mentioned that her parents have decided to contact their customers telling them that they could only offer them half of what they ordered in order to make sure that none of their customers go empty handed.
Regardless of the incident, we hope that Juliana and her family would still be able to celebrate Raya without any worries!
