The family of a seven-year-old boy were met with unimaginable calamity after his life was tragically cut short from injuries he sustained after crashing through a glass coffee table at his home during a mishap. As reported by local paper Harian Metro, the incident had taken place in the town of Banting, Kuala Langat, Selangor on Friday (September 16th, 2022).

Quoting Kuala Langat district police chief Supt Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor @ Saleh, it was reported that the young child had been playing in the living room of his home alone at the time, while his parents were in another part of the house. Jumping on the sofa, the boy then accidentally landed onto the glass surface of a coffee table placed in-front of the sofa before crashing right through it.
“The incident caused glass shards to pierce the chest of the victim. He was promptly rushed to a nearby clinic before being commuted to Banting Hospital, and was declared dead when he was receiving emergency care,” Ridhwan said in a statement released on Saturday (September 17th, 2022).
Case will be investigated for neglect
According to local portal Sinar Plus, the young boy has since been identified as Muhammad Arif Fayyadh bin Wahyu Asmi, who was a student of Class 1 Imtiyaz Sekolah Rendah Agama Bukit Changgang (SRABC).
Members of the school and teaching faculty have conveyed their condolences to the boy’s family.
“It has been informed that Muhammad Arif Fayyadh Wahyu Asmifrom Class 1 Imtiyaz has returned to God’s grace. All members of SRABC mourn the loss of the deceased. May the victim rest in peace,” they wrote.
As of right now, the case will be investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglect. Upon conviction, those accused could potentially face a fine not exceeding RM20,000 fine, a jail term not exceeding 10 years, or both.
