If you wish to get behind the wheel of a vehicle abroad, it is imperative that you first obtain a valid International Driver’s Permit from the Road Transport Department (JPJ). With that said, it would appear that some Malaysians have decided to obtain these documents illegally instead of going through the proper channels, and have since been caught red-handed by authorities in Australia.

3 Malaysian drivers get caught behind the wheel with fake documents in Australia

As shared by the New South Wales Police Force Traffic and Highway Patrol Command division last Thursday (December 29th, 2022), a total of three Malaysian drivers were nabbed in the span of 24 hours back in September for possessing fake driving documents.

The first was a 42-year-old man who was found to be holding on to a fake Malaysian driver’s license on September 18th. Checks with the Official Malaysian Road Transport Department Portal indicated that he only possessed a motorcycle license which expired all the way back in 2005. What’s more, he did not possess any valid license with any Australian state.

The second culprit was a 34-year-old man from the town of Junee, who was flagged down on September 19th and again produced what appeared to be a Malaysian driver’s license as well as a New South Wales Photo Card. This was followed by a third, 22-year-old Malaysian driver who also showed a Malaysian driver’s license to highway patrolmen.

On both instances, their Malaysian licenses were found to be fake and they had never held any valid licenses in either Malaysia or Australia. All three men have since been summoned to court and were convicted of posessing false documents to influence exercise public duty, and for not having a license while operating a vehicle on the road.
