Both her boyfriend and her mother said that they had received a text message from Min Yong prior to her disappearance, explaining how she had been hiding the problems that she had faced from her job as an insurance broker from them. Apparently, she claims to not have had any money to survive on for the past 3 months, and that the money she had used on her family had been borrowed from other people.

“I really wanted to be able to express my gratitude to you and daddy.

I’m really sorry I had to leave home to find a new job.” she wrote.

Min Yong then goes on to tell her family that she was headed to Johor Bahru for a few days for a new job position that offered her a considerably more lucrative salary.

“Please let go of my hand and let me have my freedom like dad did.

Once I’ve settled down after a few days, I’ll contact you again.”

Telling her mother not to call her, she even said that she had already packed all of her personal documents and her passport.

“Besides, you’ll probably scold me when you call me anyway. I’ll be switching off my phone.

I’ll tell you about the good news in a few days. I love you mummy.”

Authorities say there were no records of her leaving Malaysia

In an interview with China Press, Min Yong’s boyfriend said that she had not acted out of the ordinary before her disappearance, and was shocked when he received the text message from her. He also mentions that he knew his girlfriend had been facing considerable financial duress as she had not received any salary in over 2 months.

“In the past, even if she was in a bad mood, she would always report her whereabouts back to me or her family.

I checked her location using an app when we lost contact with her at about 7.00pm. The app showed her idling in the same location until I left work at 12.00am. By that time, I knew something was amiss.” he said.

CCTV footage obtained from around the area appear to show a woman who is suspected to be Min Yong checking into a hotel before leaving alone. However, as the woman was seen wearing a mask, her family was not able to confirm her identity.
