Often times, it’s easy for us to take things like having access to light for granted. In a recent video posted by content creators Jmie Wong and Kurtis Fu, the couple has shared a vlog where they’ve decided to travel to Malaysia to help install lights for a village located in an underdeveloped island in Sabah.

Following that, the couple then embarked on their mini trip to the island by boat, bringing along clothes and lights they can install for the villagers. As they arrived at the island, they were greeted by a signboard that says, “welcome to Kampung Pulau Berhala”. Without wasting any time, Curtis then made his way to the first house where they will be installing the lights for them.
“By installing lights for them, it would make things much more convenient for them because when it gets dark at night, it’s pitch black here”, he said.
He then explained that he would have to discuss with the team on the direction to install the solar panels so that the sun can generate energy for the lights to work. While they were sorting it out, he mentioned that he prepared some gifts for the villagers there.
He took a cady bar out of his bag and handed it over to a child, and upon receiving it the child grinned sheepishly. He also gave a woman a can of potato chips, and the woman thanked him for his efforts.
Always strive to do good for others and for ourselves
After installing the solar panel and lights, they then made sure that the lights were working before moving on to the next house. After installing lights for several houses, they came across another house which was extremely shabby. They then met the owner of the house and found out that she suffers from mild visual impairment.
As the lights were installed and the owner turned the lights on, they cheered in joy, and she was seen tearing up. Following that, Jmie went over and gave the woman a hug, before leaving the house. Subsequently, they came to an area where they found some of the younger villagers hanging about playing volleyball.
They joined them for some fun and passed some snacks to them before bidding their goodbyes. Before leaving, Curtis shared that the island’s safety is taken care of by soldiers as there were news of pirates trespassing the island and kidnapping one of the villagers. Unfortunately, the kidnapped victim was beheaded and since then, soldiers were dispatched to patrol around the area.
Concluding the trip, Curtis shared that through the trip he realised that a small action that they make can bring so much convenience to one’s life.
“Being able to see the villagers’ grateful smile on their faces have truly made it worth it”, he said.
It’s definitely great to see those who are capable, try to help those who are less fortunate!
