Sabah and Sarawak are two states located on the island of Borneo in Malaysia. While both the states portray distinct characteristics that sets them apart, it’s undeniable that they share plenty of similarities as well. Just recently, in conjunction with the Borneo Native Festival, groups of natives from Sabah and Sarawak have come together and paraded the streets of Kuala Lumpur, showcasing their beautiful traditional outfits.

In a TikTok video shared by @greatsam, a group of natives were spotted parading through the streets of Kuala Lumpur with only one intention in mind; to show the world that they still exist. As they were walking around, their traditional outfits have piqued the interest of many, causing many of them to film this rare phenomenon.

The natives were seen entering the MRT, with plenty of onboard passengers taking pictures of them, while engaging in friendly banter regarding their native background. The footages showcasing the diversity existing in Malaysia perfectly depicts the essence of harmony, where groups of people with different cultural backgrounds can still live together in peace.

Speaking to Wau Post, Sam revealed that the group of natives are part of the Gabungan Orang Asal Sarawak Sabah (GOASS), where they self-funded their trip to Kuala Lumpur to be a part of the Borneo native festival held over weekend.

“Their initiative is simple, they just want to put the natives on the map of Malaysia”, he said.

Sam highlighted that he felt inspired to share their story through his perspective as he is friends with the group leader Peter John. He shared that he felt amazed seeing the natives parade through the streets, emphasising that the effort they’ve put in to raise awareness is unmatched.

“They’re real, they don’t only exist in books, and I hope people are able to see that”, he said, adding that some members of the group are professionals but have decided to dedicate their time to share their culture.

Subsequently, his video has garnered over 100k views and here’s what some netizens have to say:

“I saw this when I was at Petaling Street, they were so friendly. What a beautiful culture my Borneo Warriors, salute.”

Part 3. Is this what everyone wants? A strong statement from @Panglima Peter John Jaban was captured to share the essence of what we call, harmony. The parade happened in conjunction to the Borneo Native Festival 2023 at Central Market, KL. This is a series of short stories from my perspective, following Peter John’s in his journey to put our native people on the map of Malaysia. #fyp #trending #fypmalaysia #viral #foryoupage #malaysia #kualalumpur #pasarseni #centralmarketkualalumpur #borneo #sabah #sarawak #borneonativefestival2023 #borneonativefestival #kaamatan #gawai #Undukngadau #sape #borneo #traditional #sukaseni #visitmalaysia #bnf2023 #storiesthatmatter#agikidupagikngelaban
