“We say air sejuk, not ais kosong”, Sabahans share the differences of their drinks as compared to KL

Malaysia is a country filled with diverse culture and a wide variety of food. And while each states share similar characteristics and cultures, there are certainly some differences! Just recently, a couple of friends residing in Sabah has shared their drink orders, which piqued the interest of many!

Taking it onto their TikTok, the group of friends were seen enjoying their meal at an eatery. In the video, one of them were seen drinking a lemon infused beverage. Turning to the camera, he said,

“In Sabah, we don’t have limau ais, but we have lemon ping.”

Panning the camera to the next person, the man added on to the video, saying that in Sabah, a cup of iced water isn’t called ais kosong but air sejuk!

Last but not least, a classic staple drink in Malaysia would definitely be Chinese tea. Regardless of if it’s hot or iced, this drink is definitely enjoyed by many. And while people residing in Kuala Lumpur would call it shuet cha, which translates to iced Chinese tea in Cantonese, in Sabah it’s called Chinese teh ping.
