For those who are unfamiliar, Genting Highlands is known for its cool and refreshing climate. It has become a popular getaway for locals and tourists seeking respite from the heat of the lowlands. Just recently, news has reported that a toll fee will be imposed heading up towards Genting.
Toll fee to be imposed on the way to Genting?
According to local newspaper, Sin Chew Daily, a confirmation was given by Fang Chun Hua (transliteration), the consulting advisor of the company. With that said, both local and tourists are expected to pay a toll fee when ascending up the hill. However, it’s worth noting that the toll fee would not be imposed when descending from the tourist destination.
In addition to that, toll booth construction has commenced at two locations: midway up Genting Highlands as well as one nearing the Gohtong Jaya Intersection, heading to Batang Kali.
When asked about the toll fees and toll collection commence date, the Chinese mail reported that it has yet to be confirmed by any parties.
“As of now, the toll fees and commencement date for toll collection are still undecided”, wrote the Chinese daily.
Toll booth construction ongoing
Roads leading to Genting Highland has always been managed by the resort itself and Lingkaran Cekap has been responsible for maintaining the road conditions. With external factors like the weather and heavy vehicles travelling frequently, constant maintenance to ensure the safety of the road is required.
In hopes of helping to offset the cost of regular maintenance of the roads, toll booths were introduced. It was speculated that an amount of RM2.50 to RM2.50 would be collected at the toll booth, however the spokesperson of Fang Chun Hua mentioned that further details will be announced as soon as they come to a decision.
For now, the public can expect a formal statement from the resort itself soon.
