This vegetarian mixed rice in KL only charges RM2 for a plate of rice with 3 different dishes!

Over the years, the cost-of-living has definitely increased significantly. With that said, looking for affordable places to dine out has definitely been difficult. Just recently, a vegetarian cafe in Kuala Lumpur has captured the attention of many, due to their affordable price point!

This vegetarian eatery only charges RM2 for rice with 3 different dishes!

Located at Taman Kok Lian, Jalan Ipoh, V Fortune Land Vegetarian Cafe, has been serving approximately 1,000 people daily for the past 16 years. Maintaining the price point at only RM2, the founder of the cafe, Richard So, shared to local newspaper The Star that the affordability of his meals is his heartfelt initiative to give back to the society.

“I manage this restaurant with my relatives and our number of patrons have grown from 100 daily to 1,000”, he said.

As their RM2 mixed rice continues on, Richard revealed that their patrons come from everywhere, including those staying in Sentul, Kepong, Jinjang and Batu Caves. Operating from 8am to 4pm, he mentioned that their preparation for the dishes start early in the morning, while the last replenishment for the dishes ends at 2pm.

When asked why this was the case, Richard mentioned that it was their way of curbing any wastage of food. After their operation hours, he would then head off to buy ingredients needed for the next day of business.

Giving back to society, caring for the community

On top of his initiative in maintaining the price point at RM2, Richard also prepares free lunch boxes for those in need!

“Each customer is allowed to take up to 2 packets until we run out of supply”, said the kind man.

Encouraging sustainability, he would urge his customers to bring their own container, so they could reduce any unnecessary waste. However, it’s worth noting that taking out would cost an extra RM0.50! Despite the lack of culinary experience earlier on, Richard is proud to share that he now prepares all the dishes himself.

Generating enough income from their 70 shoe stores, he is able to fund 5 of his workers and maintain the price point for his mixed rice at RM2. When asked how long he intends to keep the initiative going, the kind man shared that he would continue on as long as he is capable.

A truly amazing initiative that not only helps the society, but also emphasises on sustainability! Well done, Richard!
