For those who are unfamiliar, Neera refers a drink that’s extracted from spathes of coconuts & palm trees. In an attempt to take care of his family financially, this former bus driver has decided to take the initiative of climbing up coconut trees, helping villagers extract fresh Neera so they could sell it.
This M’sian earns a rough RM1,500 per month from climbing coconut trees
According to local newspaper Sinar Harian, Ronsman Ishak is a 44-year-old man was a bus driver in the city, before deciding to move back to his hometown in Kampung Tok Dor back in 2018. Having no job when he moved back, he then got the idea of climbing coconut trees and extracting fresh Neera for the villagers to sell.
“The villagers usually offer me RM10 a month for every tree I need to climb”, he said.
Rosniman shared that his idea of climbing up coconut trees actually stemmed from his childhood experience, where he would follow his father to look for the sweet drink. Fast forward to today, the humble man now climbs over 10 trees a day, to collect Neera from the palm trees.
“Most of the trees I climb are around my housing area or in my employer’s farm”, he added.
Along with the number of trees climbed every day and selling the Neera extract in bottles, Rosniman is able to earn roughly RM1,500 a month. Collecting about 70 to 100 litres of Neera extract from the coconut trees a week, he is able to sell them for RM10 a bottle. When asked about his harvesting process, the man shared that he would harvest the extracts twice, once being in the morning after their morning prayers, and once after dusk.
