“They would feel lonely too”, M’sian treats her foreign staff for a meal with her family twice a month

As the cost-of-living increases, many people have mustered up the courage to work overseas in hopes for a better living. Just recently, a Malaysian has shared her encounter with two of her foreign staff after inviting them out for a meal.

Hiring two foreigner employees to help out with their business, Fion shares that she never really had the chance to converse with the two foreign employees until recently. In her post she said,

“We operate a factory and would need to head to our nearby grocer every 2 weeks.”

Sharing that their factory is located far from the city centre, and is somewhat secluded, it’s inconvenient for them to walk to the grocer. With that said, her husband would then send their two employees to the grocer by car. However, not long ago, her husband felt unwell and was admitted to the hospital.

“I was tasked to send them to the grocer and while in the car, I asked them why they decided to work with us at such a secluded area”, she said.

To her surprise, one of the workers told her,

“Everyone has a different way of living, we’re comfortable living this life.”

Having some sort of enlightenment from their conversations earlier on, Fion then decided to surprise the two of them by asking them out for dinner. As they agree to go for dinner, they weren’t aware that Fion’s husband would be there too. Upon seeing him their moods instantly lightened up.

Sitting down at a restaurant enjoying a meal with Fion’s family, one of them expressed how enjoyable it was to be able to dine out and have some tea. Sympathizing with them, Fion then decided to make it a habit to invite them out for dinner every two weeks with her husband and children.

“My kids are also taught to respect and treat them well”, she said.

Ending her post, she hopes that everyone would try and offer other foreign employees’ kindness as it isn’t easy having to move to a whole new country and work for a better future.
